To someone in need, even the smallest gift can be a miracle; whether it’s caring for a critically ill child, or providing a blanket to keep a dialysis patient warm during treatment, or to help a widow face a new normal in life after the death of a loved one.
In 1994, the Regina Chapters of AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope founded An Evening in Greece to raise funds for the first elevator at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church. Thanks to the vision and commitment of the principal founding member and President of the AHEPA at the time, Thomas Siarkos, the event grew and now with the partnership of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Community of Regina has become a premier social fundraiser in Regina.
The mandate of An Evening in Greece is to raise funds for local charities minimally funded by the Government.
Year over year An Evening in Greece hosts over 800 guests with major support from our corporate and local business community. Guests enjoy authentic Greek cuisine, live entertainment and dancing, and a selection of live and silent auction items. To celebrate the success of the evening, guests are encouraged to break plates and shout “Opa”.
Today, it is our community’s largest one-day fundraising event devoted to health and wellness and most of all – giving generously. Since its inception, the event has donated over $2 million over the past 22 years, to benefit various programs in Regina such as:
- Friends of Renal Dialysis
- Autism Regina
- Cosmopolitan Learning Centre
- Hospitals of Regina Foundation
- Regina Palliative Care Inc.
- Regina Therapeutic Riding Association
- Regina Adult Learning Centre
